In the tradition of the Dutch and Flemish still life masters, Fancher, employs historic symbolic motifs and relates them to the racial stereotyping of African-Americans.


This Dinner is a conversation about otherness though food— a visual feast employing allegories or Vanitas to visually display signs of a struggle of between two opposing sides—that still are very much the same.


The tableau is a nod to Jeff walls early works that indicate a cinematic window into experiences that can be explained though opposition. The figures are settled across from each other as they dine on the system that oppresses them.
