Fancher's work addresses issues of race and gender as they relate to people of the African Diaspora. Fancher's artistic point of departure employs historical photographs, documents, textiles, films and first person narratives. Fancher's work challenges what it means to be a person of African descent living in a contemporary western society that defines people of color as the ‘Other.’
Fancher employs an interdisciplinary approach to her artistic practice. Fancher easily moves between photography, video, and sculpture to address the grotesque images of otherness and blackness that are found in western advertisements, entertainment and in other cultural artifacts.
