YOU ARE A TARGET

In my series "You Are a Target," I delve into the visceral reality of navigating public spaces as a person of color, where the mere act of existing often renders one hyper-visible and vulnerable to scrutiny and violence. This collection of photographs is a stark commentary on the social constructs of race and religion that paint targets on the backs of those who dare to stand out in a sea dominated by whiteness. By adopting the aesthetic of an all-American Target store advertisement, I juxtapose the everyday, almost mundane commercial imagery with the profound and often life-threatening challenges individuals face simply because of their skin color or religious garments. This striking contrast aims to unsettle and provoke viewers to confront the commodification of diversity and the dangerous implications of being seen as 'other' in society.
